Base Stations

Solar-powered communication base stations for large-scale remote and off-grid operations

The MTGA Base Station range is built for operations where power requirements, coverage demands or communications complexity go beyond what a mobile trailer can deliver. All three models are off-grid base stations with battery redundancy, skid-based, solar-powered and semi-portable, positioned by crane or forklift and capable of running 24 hours a day with both battery and generator backup. Every unit is custom designed and built at our Perth workshop to your exact specifications.

500 Series Semi-Portable Base Station

Cell tower-level communications without the permanent infrastructure. Eighteen solar panels, 400–600W continuous power, air-conditioned racks and a 17m telescopic lattice mast, up and running in under 10 minutes. Suits operations requiring whole-sector or whole-cell coverage with the flexibility to relocate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a communications base station?
A communications base station is a semi-portable, solar-powered hub that provides high-capacity network coverage for an entire sector or cell. Unlike a mobile trailer, which follows the work, a base station is positioned in one location and acts as a central node, running LTE, two-way radio, microwave backhaul and more for an entire operational area. MTGA base stations are designed to replace a standard communications tower without requiring permanent infrastructure.
What's the difference between a base station and a mobile trailer?
Mobile trailers are towable by a light vehicle and suited to smaller sites or deployments that move frequently. Base stations are solar powered communications skids, moved by crane or forklift — built for fixed site communications where higher power output, taller masts and longer-term deployment are needed. They're a different category of product for a different scale of operation.
How are the base stations moved on site?
All three models are skid-based and moved by crane, off-road forklift or drag equipment rather than towed by a vehicle. Once positioned, they stay in place for the duration of the deployment. When the operation shifts, the same equipment that placed them can relocate them.
How long can they run without sunlight?
All three models carry a minimum of five days battery redundancy and six days generator redundancy. The 2000 Series provides 5+ days on both. For operations that genuinely can't afford communications downtime, the dual redundancy setup means the system keeps running regardless of weather.
How quickly can a base station be deployed?
The 500 and 1000 Series can both be fully deployed, solar array extended, mast erected and system live, in under 10 minutes by a single operator. The 2000 Series, being a fully custom build, will vary depending on configuration.
Are base stations fully custom built?
Yes. Every MTGA base station is designed and fabricated at our Perth workshop to the client's exact specifications, power output, mast height, battery capacity, communications systems and shelter type are all specified during the design process. There are no off-the-shelf configurations.
What communications systems can a base station support?
Base stations can support a wide range of systems including single and multi-sector LTE, microwave backhaul, two-way radio, tetra/P25, Wi-Fi and more. The 2000 Series is specifically engineered for multi-sector LTE and microwave backhaul at the highest power demands.
What's the difference between the 500, 1000 and 2000 Series?
The key differences are power output, mast height and LTE capability. The 500 Series handles single-sector or cell coverage at 400–600W. The 1000 Series steps up to 1000–1600W for higher-power single-sector requirements. The 2000 Series is the flagship, fully custom, 4000W+ continuous power, multi-sector LTE and microwave backhaul. Each is a meaningful capability step up from the last.
